Mission Possible Week 2

Two VBS's for Penbrooke Church Plant

This week we have been working with a church plant pastor and conducting two Answers In Genesis, Gold Rush themed VBS "The Bible is a Gold Mine" - songs, Bible Hangman puzzle, puppets, Gospel trick, Bible story, snack, skit, craft, and games. Then on Saturday we did open air evangelism to adults on the streets of Calgary.
With the spreading of sickness in the team, heat exhaustion, and wiriness, only through Christ have we been able to put up the good fight and in His strength keep pushing on.  The teens this week have been amazing. If you can imagine having two VBS's each day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, doing VBS prep, food prep, personal and group devotions etc. the team has had very little down time, but they have continued to put a smile on their face,

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on and perfecter of faith. For the joy that was set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
We are thankful to each one of these teens for the things that we were able to accomplish together as one body.

For Meredith's faithfulness and dedication - a little worker bee with organization of the VBS.

Jonathan's endurance, boldness and new Texan accent for Gold Rush VBS host MC.

Garrett's kindness and gentleness - showing great sportsmanship with the kids.

Katie's patience and compassion - ministering to parents of kids.

Max's teaching and gentle spirit - object lesson for the kids.

Kathryn's organizational skills and patience - helping keep everyone is line.

Christian's boldness and dedication - no task is too big.

Cameron's joyful and gentle spirit - bringing laughs to the kids tummies.

We were not honestly sure how the week was going to turn out. An Evangelist in this area said at the beginning of the week, "If we get any kids this week it will be a miracle." And a miracle it has been.  We have reached about 50 kids and some parents this week with the Good news of the Gospel. Ministering to kids and families from Vietnam, Lebanon, Iraq, Poland and various nations in Africa. Some are Muslims and it has been amazing to share about the only true God of Scripture, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the Good News of the Gospel. We praise God for some that professed Christ, including some kids from Muslim families. Even the pastors wife was excited and shocked with the outcome saying that if they get two or three kids here, that it is a lot.

We are excited that He chose us to be blessed in working in this area and being servants in ministering to these kids and families. To God be the Glory. - CA

Clappy, Clappy

My favorite part of the week was the VBS we did. It was fun doing tricks, the sketch board, games, songs, skits, crafts, and specially the puppets. The puppets may be the least favorite thing for some of the teens, but for me the puppets are fun to be a part of and it's nice to see the smile on the kids faces.

The first day we did VBS, there weren't that many kids, but within each day, God has brought more and more kids. We started with about nine kids and ended up with about fifteen!  This is amazing because they say these numbers are unheard of in Canada! - Meredith
All Prayers on Deck
On Wednesday, our attendance at VBS started to decline, from 15 to about 8-10. This was very discouraging to us because we had knocked on hundreds of doors handing out flyers. So, there was only one person to call on. God. We all circled around and prayed that God would bring back the kids. I also asked my friends to pray that the kids would come back. On Thursday, we had about 20 kids at each club!! Wow God is truly amazing. Things like this constantly remind me about how powerful and important prayer is. - Kathryn

A Still Small Voice
Kids clubs, sometimes the kids are great listeners and sometimes it seems like a leaf falling from a tree will distract the entire club. Thankfully, we had two very good clubs this week with adorable, and polite kids. At the end of the week, Paul asked the kids, with their heads bowed and eyes closed, to raise their hand if they wanted to receive Christ as their personal savior. If a boy or girl raised their hand they were given the chance to come up and tell one of the leaders (a.k.a. us). One little boy came up to me and said he received Christ. So I asked him why we need a savior to see if he new what the problem is that separates us from God. He
said in a small voice "because I have sin." This was so encouraging to see that he understood that he needed Jesus because of sin. With all the prayer I can give, I hope that God has truly opened his heart so I will be able to see his adorable face in Heaven! - Jonathan
